At the beginning of my summer, I was nervous.
I had just finished my junior year, and starting an internship at Liquid Interactive for the summer seemed so adult. With only a year left of college, the dreaded concept of “Real Life” was dauntingly close.
I was nervous about a million things. Would I be given too much responsibility and feel overwhelmed? Would I be ignored and only spoken to in coffee orders? I had no idea what to expect.
One of the first meetings I had with my supervisor, Emily, was centered around setting goals for the summer. Emily explained that I was able to establish 3 goals for my internship related to the kind of work I wanted to do and what I wanted to get out of this summer. I’d had a number of internships, but had never experienced my boss asking me what I wanted to work on, instead of simply handing me different assignments. I had a great feeling about what was in store for the summer.
As the weeks went on, I really continued to enjoy my new role. The work was engaging and exciting, and my coworkers were hilarious and interesting people. I was looking forward to coming to work every day. Monthly cake days, company picnics, and “Ladies Lunches” definitely didn’t hurt, either.
Aside from all of the activities and perks that made my job so much fun, I walked away with knowledge and experience that I will be able to apply to my career. Liquid offers a wide variety of digital marketing services, and my team made sure I was able to learn about each and every one.
From strategy and analytics to social media and paid search, I gained such valuable experience working at Liquid. Contributing to projects for a variety of clients was definitely challenging at some points, but I feel so lucky to have had a job that always kept me engaged and learning. When my job search begins in the spring, I will be armed with a significant understanding of digital marketing, and more importantly, knowledge of what I want to do with my life.
I went into this summer nervous about a lot of things. With graduation just around the corner, I didn’t know what to expect. I’m going to miss my Liquid friends so very much when I head back to school in the fall, but I’m so glad I had a chance to get to know this bunch of smart, weird, and entertaining people. I am so grateful to this company for welcoming me in so quickly and making sure that I was able work in areas of marketing that I was actually interested in and excited about.
After my summer at Liquid, the Real World doesn’t seem so bad.
