I get to do some pretty neat things as part of my job. One of the neat things I get to do this year is help lead Liquid in efforts to give back to the community, more specifically the Lehigh Valley community. The Lehigh Valley is where Liquid calls home, and it’s my home too, as it is for the majority of my teammates. It’s a great place to do business, and a wonderful place to live. As a company, Liquid has been very successful in the Lehigh Valley (we’re celebrating 10 years in business this year), and we want to share that success by giving back to the community. Because the Lehigh Valley isn’t just a place on a map. And the “community” isn’t a faceless, nameless blob of people. That community is where we live, where we work, where we shop. It’s where our kids are growing up. That community is us, our neighbors, our friends. That’s who we want to give back to – our neighbors who are going through tough times and could use a helping hand.
Liquid has always been active in the community – both as a company and as individuals – through giving, volunteering and mentoring, but starting in 2016 we’re doing a little bit more. We’ve selected 4 charitable programs – 1 for each quarter – where we feel we can make an impact as a team. This quarter we held our very first food drive collecting food and personal care items for Second Harvest Food Bank. Like many food banks, Second Harvest’s busiest months for food donations are November and December, and they struggle to meet their collection needs the rest of the year. While planning this event, I read some statistics about hunger, and I have to tell you, those words tore me up. Looking at my sweet 6-month-old baby, I just can’t imagine the struggle of not being able to provide enough food for my family. As an individual, I read those statistics and picture those hurting families and I’m overwhelmed. I can’t make a difference on my own, but as part of a team, I can have a huge impact.
That’s why in the month of February, we chose Second Harvest to be our valentine. I split our company into two teams, and challenged them to collect more food than their competing team, and to help Liquid make an impact by spreading some love here in the Lehigh Valley, our home. With the help of our neighbors in the building and visiting clients, Liquid collected 900 pounds of food and $300 in monetary donations. Second Harvest is able to distribute 9 pounds of food for every dollar donated, making our total donation equivalent to 3,600 pounds.
I couldn’t be prouder to be a part of the Liquid team, or more thankful for a job that not only ensures that there’s always enough food on my table, but lets me help feed my neighbors too.

Our community focus next quarter is the Pediatric Cancer Foundation of the Lehigh Valley, Inc. We’ll be supporting their 7th Annual 5K Walk/8K Run to Live event taking place Saturday, April 2nd. There are multiple ways you can get involved. Join Team Liquid in the race by signing up for the 5K Walk or 8K Run. If racing isn’t your thing, there’s a big need for volunteers to help prepare for and run the event. The final registration deadline for the race is April 1st, but prices increase March 20th, so register early!
