Do You Need SEO?

Short answer: YES

Let’s start with the basics:

What exactly is SEO?

SEO is short for search engine optimization – an industry that began with the sole purpose of getting websites to appear at the top of the search engine result pages, or SERPs. As the internet continues to evolve and users become more search savvy, the SEO industry evolves with them.

While SERP placement is still a measure of success, these days SEO is more about delivering the best possible user experience for visitors to your website. So no matter what the intention of your website is, any user who clicks through from a search engine (organic traffic) should be able to find what they are looking for.

User Experience?

You may be asking yourself: what does the user experience have to do with organic traffic?

Well…everything, really.

With so much information available on the web, users have become more selective about the websites they will visit through a search engine. It has become vital to convey a clear and concise message to bring in traffic because in the end, you don’t just want more visits to your website – you want visits that will lead to conversions.

When a user types a query into a search engine the SERP provides a list of web pages to choose from that may satisfy that query.

If a page on your website appears in that SERP, then it is your responsibility to provide what the user is looking for.

If your website does not have what the user is looking for then there is no reason for it to appear in that particular SERP.

How Does SEO Work?

SEO is a branch of digital marketing that focuses on optimizing the website to improve organic traffic. It is understanding how and why search engines select the pages that appear in a given SERP, and using that knowledge to provide the best user experience for a given search query.

Any good SEO marketer will be able to identify a message that both satisfies the intent of your website and reaches the largest audience through search.

So Why Do You Need SEO?

No matter how great your product is, it doesn’t mean much if your message does not reach an audience. In the fast-paced environment of the internet it is important to stay current and relevant to users if you want a successful website. Investing in SEO will improve your visibility on the web to help bring visitors to your website and increase its overall value.
